Places of Welcome

How Places of Welcome are continuing to support their communities

* Updated 31st March 2020 * We have been overwhelmed by the hard work and innovation of Places of welcome partners across our area to ensure that this movement of welcome and hospitality continue in new ways

Recent advice from the Government has meant that most if not all of our Places of welcome have stopped meeting face to face.

This hasn't stopped them continuing their amazing welcome though! They have been even more resourceful, as some of our Places of Welcome Facilitators explain:

Whilst we all start to adapt to new ways of keeping in touch and supporting each other, Places of Welcome in Staffordshire are rising to the challenge of keeping connected with their volunteers and guests and helping out in the local community!

Initiatives so far have included:

  • delivering lunches to people instead of holding a luncheon club plus offering trips to the shop or pharmacist (Life Church, Netherstowe)
  • phone chains to keep in touch including pastoral 'ring rounds' (Martin Heath Hall, Christ Church Lichfield) and a Cheery Chat line (Beacon Church Burntwood)
  • ways of connecting remotely (Rising Brook Baptist Church, Stafford)
  • Brewood Library Place of Welcome volunteers are supporting a ‘Brewood helpers group’ and also a ‘Coven matters helpers group’ has been established - delivering shopping / medical supplies / telephone call systems set up.
  • Great to hear that the drop in at Brereton Million Place of Welcome is being offered via FaceTime, email and phone
  • Midlands Psychology Service is running their Place of welcome via a facebook group

Some Places of Welcome are taking part in local Whats App and Facebook groups to keep in touch with each other and to make sure that the Places of Welcome movement remains strong and flexible during this worrying time.

Lots of people really care about others and want to do what they can to help; Places of Welcome are facilitating this wherever we can.
