2019 Highlights Dementia

Our Dementia-Friendly Churches conference was “Better Together: Join the conversation about dementia”. All our conversations were led by people with lived experience of dementia.

It has a huge impact when you hear of someone’s first-hand experience.

  • “Ask us about it. Dispel the myths.”
  • “I don’t want to be pitied. I want to be understood.”
  • “There’s so much still to give, giving in a different way.”
  • “It’s not an end to life. There’s a life to live.”
  • “Diagnosis is like a bereavement.”
  • “I spent the first six months very angry, then I learned how to zip it. And I also felt very lonely” (a carer).
