100 people of hope posts
Our 100th #peopleofhope post

When the pandemic hit, and we were all thrown into disarray, amongst the overload of information and negative news stories, we decided to post simple messages of hope: 280 characters to share positivity and bring people together during this crisis. When we started, we didn’t realise we’d still be posting 100 days later!

We’ve loved sharing uplifting quotes, beautiful poetry, mental health and wellbeing tips, good news stories, prayers and simple ways to be a practical help to others, and we hope that you have found some hope on this journey with us.

We hope that you, like us, will continue to be #peopleofhope in as many situations as possible.

Huge thanks to Together Network for being our constant companison on this journey as well as all those who have shared and contributed including Places of Welcome, Near Neighbours, the Diocese of Lichfield, Wellsprings Together, Church Urban Fund, Church Action on Poverty and Together in Sussex

"But where there’s hope, there’s life.

It fills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again."

Our early #peopleofhope thinking - 21st December 2019

Reflecting Back

We’ve been reflecting back to the end of 2019, when we were thinking and praying about what 2020 had in store for us.

As a staff team, the theme of being #peopleofhope in a troubled and unequal world really resonated with us all.

Fast forward to the present, and this theme is even more relevant!

This is our original post from December 21st 2019, posted via Instagram

• @impactpoverty • As we reflect on 2019 and look forward to 2020, we pledge to redouble our efforts to be #peopleofhope. Where there is so much discord, Poverty, injustice and inequality, we need #hope more than anything else: “Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and Courage. Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are.” St Augustine

Many people have gained a lot of comfort from reading or listening to poetry. #TheGreatRealisation by @probstomfoolery is one of our favourites! Enjoy https://youtu.be/Nw5KQMXDiM4 #peopleofhope "The people dusted off their instincts, they remembered how to smile." #peopleofhope

"Art helps us identify with one another" said Olafur Eliasson. Kids (and adults) in our neighbourhood have been really blessed by an unknown person creating a trail of @LEGO_Group models in a local wood, giving us all a safe shared activity during lockdown #peopleofhope 🌳

Salvador Dalí said a "True artist is not one who is inspired but one who inspires others." We heard recently of Rachel, who has rediscovered painting during lockdown. Not only does it give her pleasure, she turns the pictures into notelets & gives them to elderly neighbours so that they can stay in touch! #peopleofhope 🎨🖌️

People are doing many practical things to be #peopleofhope during lockdown. Our friends ‪@justiceandcare‬ are raising awareness of Modern Slavery. Just take a pic of yourself at your door with a sign saying #unlockthedoors & share with that hashtag on social media! 🚪

It's Thursday so people across the country will be clapping for the NHS tonight, but what can we do throughout the week? Why not take the 20 seconds it takes to wash your hands to pray for the NHS and other essential workers. #PeopleOfHope #ClapForNHS #PrayForNHS

36) JFK said "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” Our hope & 🙏 is that this appreciation for all of our key workers and the vital work they do lives on past this current situation. #PeopleofHope
Copy of Dwell on the beauty of life Watch the stars and see yourself running with them
One of the silver linings of lockdown has been an increased appreciation of nature and the cosmos. Marcus Aurelius advised us to "Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them." Try taking a look up at tonight's night sky 🌌 👀 #PeopleofHope

In the normal rush and busyness, it can seem hard to have time to reflect, but now, more than ever, it's really important to have time to do this. This week, we'll be sharing some tools we have found useful. The first is this beautiful poem by Lynn Unger. #peopleofhope Promise this world your love- for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, so long as we all shall live. http://www.lynnungar.com/poems/pandemic/

This week we’ll be focusing on #reflecting. Many of us have been inspired by 99-year-old war veteran @captaintommoore who has now raised £26m+ for the NHS after walking 100+ laps of his garden. This highlights how we can all be #peopleofhope & do our bit 📷 ‪@rebeccavosborne‬

There is no denying it at the moment, there is so much uncertainty around the world as we face coronavirus. A lot of us are not even sure how to deal with all the emotions we are feeling. What we have to realise is now more important than ever to look after our mental health and see this as a priority. One way of dealing with this is to be grateful! Take some times out today (just a few minutes) to reflect on the week and what you are grateful for. We would love to hear them below in the comments. #peopleofhope
